RCREEE discusses Egypt’s National Energy Efficiency Action Plan
The Regional Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (RCREEE) in cooperation with the Egyptian Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy, the League of Arab States (LAS), regional GIZ project RE-ACTIVATE and the German project DIAPOL-CE, organized a coordination meeting on “Egypt’s National Energy Efficiency Action Plans (NEEAP)”. The meeting was held on August 8, 2016 at the League of Arab States headquarters in Cairo.
Within the framework of the Egyptian NEEAP, the meeting aimed to review the ongoing NEEAP procedures implemented by the participated organizations. It also addressed the barriers and difficulties facing its implementation.
Ahmed Badr, RCREEE Executive Director welcomed the attendees during his opening speech. In addition, Dr. Maged Mahmoud, RCREEE Technical Director discussed “employment promotion through renewable energy and energy efficiency in the MENA region” project and the possibilities of employment in RE and EE fields.
During the meeting, the League of Arab States energy department presented the methodology for developing and implementing NEEAP. Moreover, DIAPOL-CE representative presented the experiences of NEEAP development and funding acquisition for action implementation.
Finally, the attendees discussed the recommendations and future steps required to develop the National Energy Efficiency Action Plan (NEEAP) in Egypt.
The National Energy Efficiency Action Plan (NEEAP) is a strategic national plan framework that helps Arab countries to apply energy efficiency goals. The aim for this guideline is to foster and improve electricity efficiency and consumption rationalization at end users in Arab states.
