Arab Renewable Energy Framework Workshop
In March, 2013, the League of Arab States (LAS) and RCREEE organized a workshop to present latest updates on the Arab Renewable Energy Framework (AREF) developed by Dr. Albrecht Kaupp from German Development Cooperation (GIZ) GmbH. The workshop also discussed the template of the National Renewable Energy Action Plan (NREAP). AREF is a common framework for the promotion of energy from renewable sources. It includes recommendations for national targets as provided by LAS member states for the overall share of energy from renewable sources in electricity generation, heating and cooling excluding transport. Both documents are based on the Directive 2009/28/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council.
The AREF and NREAP templates were discussed and submitted to the renewable energy working group at LAS for discussion and submission to the renewable energy and energy efficiency experts committee which reports to the Arab Ministerial Council for Electricity.
