By 2020, a total of 20% of Egypt's electricity shall be generated from renewable energy sources. The natural condiditons in the country, without doubt, are favourable for the endeavour.
Egypt is part of the North African "Sun Belt" and therefore an ideal location for solar plants (in particular using concentrated solar power technologies.)
The Regional Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (RCREEE) has a vacancy for the position of a Liaison Officer to be based in the Central Office in Cairo, Egypt. Detailed job descriptions can be downloaded here.
Applications should be sent to hanan.malek@gtz.de by the 9th of September, 2010. Thanks and best regards.

End-Use Energy Efficiency: National Plan for Regional Energy Challenges
Tunisia: 26-27 July, 2010
In line with the coordination between League of Arab States (LAS-Energy Department), European Commission (EC), sponsored projects MED-ENEC & MED-EMIP, ESCWA and The Regional Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (RCREEE), a workshop was organized in Tunisia on July 26th and 27th. It was followed by the LAS "Arab EE Directive Working Group" meeting on July 28th and 29th. This two-day workshop was to initiate the process of preparing a three-year National Energy Efficiency Action Plans (NEEAPs) according to the drafted Arab EE directive.
The purpose of this joint workshop is to initiate the bottom-up national coordination for the preparation of the NEEAP and to raise awareness of the recent regional policy development. It was also planned to present and learn from the regional and European experiences relating to the coordination, benchmarking and follow up of such coordinated regional efforts as well as the planning and implementation of the NEEAP on the national levels. Energy Audit in Building A Regional Training Workshop Organized by RCREEE
Tunisia: 1 to 5 June, 2010
The Regional Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (RCREEE) in cooperation with the Tunisian National Agency for Energy Conservation (ANME) organized a training course on "Energy Audits in Buildings, and the Role of ESCOs" in Tunis, from 1 to 5 June, 2010.
The objective of the training course was to present model of monitoring energy audit programs based on successful stories from ANME, Tunisia. Additionally, it would support energy audit firms to develop the necessary technical know-how for their on-going energy audit works.
Furthermore, the training course would enhance the activities that have been done for the future implementation of the Arabian EE Directive that is expected to be issued this year by the Arabian Ministerial Council for Electricity.
The main subjects concentrated on the institutional framework and energy building regulations (energy building codes, thermal insulation standards, etc.), the energy audit programs in buildings sector and energy audits basics and principles.
In particular, the training courses dealt with the main electrical and mechanical systems, cooling and heating energy needs optimization, and the role of ESCOs in the development of energy audits markets.
