Jordan took over the presidency of the RCREEE Board of Trustees (RCREEE: the Regional Center for Renewable Energies and Energy Efficiency) during the meeting held in Amman yesterday evening. Ten Arab Mediterranean countries attended the meeting, as well as European experts. The meeting was chaired by the general secretary of the Ministry of Energy and Mining, Farouk El Hayary. The participants elaborated on the cooperation mechanisms and the exchange of expertise for promoting the sector. They furthermore discussed the activities proposed for 2010 and the RCREEE achievements of last year. El Hayary in his address after taking over the presidency said: "We in Jordan" are up to the standard of efforts necessary for enabling RCREEE to achieve its mandated tasks of serving the member countries and to successfully fulfill the work program for this year.

Discussed yesterday were the submitted proposals for implementing the Italian-Egyptian Project for solar energy collection, which aims at transferring technology and technical know-how to Egyptian research centers. The meeting was chaired by Dr. Hani Helal, Minister of Higher Education and Minister of State for Scientific Research. Dr. Tarek Hussein, president of the Academy for Scientific Research reiterated that the project lies in the frame of the Italian-Egyptian General Science Project that aims at supporting and expanding the scope of research capacities in the field of energy for the stakeholders. The project's goal is to achieve relevant innovations and make giant leaps in the current technology projects of solar energy collections. Companies and sustainable links are to be made with the industry and in cooperation with the universities.
