In line with the coordination between League of Arab State (LAS-Energy Department), European Commission (EC), sponsored projects MED-ENEC & MED-EMIP and The Regional Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (RCREEE), a workshop was organized in Tunisia on July 26th and 27th. It was followed by the LAS "Arab EE Directive Working Group" meeting on July 28th and 29th. This two-day workshop was to initiate the process of preparing a three-year National Energy Efficiency Action Plans (NEEAPs) according to the drafted Arab EE directive. The purpose of this joint workshop is to initiate the bottom-up national coordination for the preparation of the NEEAP and to raise awareness of the recent regional policy development. It was also planned to present and learn from the regional and European experiences relating to the coordination, benchmarking and follow up of such coordinated regional efforts as well as the planning and implementation of the NEEAP on the national levels. Different organizing parties presented their technical assistance plans and activities in support of the preparation and implementation of the NEEAP and the Arab EE directive.

Energy Audit in Building
A Regional Training Workshop Organized by RCREEE

The Regional Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (RCREEE) in cooperation with the Tunisian National Agency for Energy Conservation (ANME) organized a training course on "Energy Audits in Buildings, and the Role of ESCOs" in Tunis, from 1 to 5 June, 2010. The objective of the training course was to present model of monitoring energy audit programs based on successful stories from ANME, Tunisia. Additionally, it would support energy audit firms to develop the necessary technical know-how for their on-going energy audit works. Furthermore, the training course would enhance the activities that have been done for the future implementation of the Arabian EE Directive that is expected to be issued this year by the Arabian Ministerial Council for Electricity. The main subjects concentrated on the institutional framework and energy building regulations (energy building codes, thermal insulation standards, etc.), the energy audit programs in buildings sector and energy audits basics and principles. In particular, the training courses dealt with the main electrical and mechanical systems, cooling and heating energy needs optimization, and the role of ESCOs in the development of energy audits markets.

Capacity Building in the Field of Wind Energy

RCREEE Regional Renewable Energy Conference 4 FEB 2010

RCREEE Renewable Energy Conference was held in Amman, Jordan. At the conference, RCREEE presented a comparative study of RE and EE regulations in MENA, the most in depth study of the subject to date. The results of the DANIDA-financed study entitled "Economic, Technological and Environmental Impact Assessment of National Regulations and Incentives for RE and EE" was presented by Dr. Nigel Lucas and Dr. Nikolaus Supersberger, the most comprehensive study on RE and EE policies and regulations in the MENA region to date. The Desertec Industrial Initiative was also presented and fruitful discussion took place among the guests. The conference was open to the interested public.

Based on the needs its member states for developing wind energy and its optimal use, RCREEE, the Regional Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency, in collaboration with the NREA, The National Authority for New and Renewable Energy in Egypt, organized a regional training workshop on phases pertaining to Capacity Building in the Field of Wind Energy. The workshop was held in Cairo, Egypt during the period from 6 to 15 December, 2009. The workshop topics revolved around the principles and basics for selecting locations, designing farms and financial feasibility, while illustrating examples of a number of achievements in the member states.

Round Table Meeting 4 FEB 2009
