A Memorandum of Understanding has been signed between the Authority for Energy and Natural Resources and JAICA, Japanese International Cooperation Agency. Represented were the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation and the Authority for Industrial Cities. The Memorandum is about building an electricity generation station by use of solar cells, known as "photovoltaic". Its capacity is to reach 550 kW at the city of Jericho. The project aims at using solar energy to produce electricity and to feed it into the electricity grid, hoping to generalize the experiment in future in other areas.
The project is expected to be implemented during a time period of no more than one and a half years from date of final approval of the project.
The Agreement has been signed by the general manager of the Palestinian Center for Energy and Environmental Research, Engineer Ayman Ismail representing the Energy Authority, Mr. Tushinoubou Cato representing JAICA, Dr. Cairo Arafat representing the Ministry of Planning and Ahmed Hassassanah representing the Authority for Industrial Cities.
