| In Cooperation with New & Renewable Energy Authority (NREA), RCREEE organized a workshop on Energy Efficiency Labels and Standards for Home Appliances. The workshop was attended by specialists in EE Labeling for home appliances projects in RCREEE members states. National papers on the programs in member states were presented, which in turn will result in a comprehensive report on the evolution of labeling programs. |

Land Use Agreement & Power Purchase Agreement Models Discussion Roundtable

| Within the missions of the Centre to support partnership between the public and private sectors and to enhance the development of our Member States ambitious and national plans for RE, RCREEE prepared land use and power purchase agreements to be used in the preparation and documentation of large RE projects connected to the electricity grid.
On 14/12/2011, RCREEE held a regional seminar in Cairo to present and discuss the results of these models and propose any amendments to adjust them to the requirements of our Member States. The Discussion was attended by specialists in RE large scale projects planning from RCREEE Member States. |

RCREEE Continues Supporting the Implementation of the Arab EE Guideline

After the adoption of the Arab EE Guideline on 23 November 2010 by the Executive Bureau of the Arab Ministerial Electricity Council of the League of Arab States, LAS Energy Department and RCREEE will proceed with providing the technical assistance needed in preparing and implementing the (National Energy Efficiency Action Plans-NEEAPs).
Continuation of the regional and the national workshops held to support the NEEAP concept in the Arab region, this regional workshop held in cooperation with the Sudanese Ministry of Electricity and Dams is intended for the benefit of the mandated national entities that have been named and assigned the responsibilities for the implementation of the Arab EE Guideline and the related (NEEAP) according to Article II of the Arab EE Guideline. |

RCREEE Member States: from the first movers for the NAMAs

| In the framework of the MoU signed on March 2011, aiming to improve the conditions needed to facilitate the implementation of project activities under the CDM, especially the Programmatic Activities (PoA) and NAMAs in the MENA region, RCREEE organized jointly with CDM-JI Initiative two events in Cairo.
On 16 November, a training course with a purpose of building capacities and raising awareness among RCREEE member states on the opportunities of carbon finance beyond 2012 to enhance investments in RE and EE.
On 17 November, a workshop to present the outcomes of an analytical study performed by RCREEE and CDM-JI Initiative and achieved on October 2011.

RCREEE Reflects the Regional Prospects in 10th World Wind Energy Conference 2011
Greening Energy: Converting Deserts into Powerhouses

RCREEE participated in the 10th World Wind Energy Conference 2011, organized in Cairo during 31 October – 2 November 2011 by the World Wind Energy Association, the Egyptian Wind Energy Association and the German-Arabic Chamber of Commerce. More than 500 participants attended this conference. The conference covered all aspects of wind utilization, related policies, manufacturing, development, operation as well as economic and social issues, with a special focus on how to convert with renewable energy deserts into powerhouses. Especially against the background of the ongoing nuclear disaster in Japan, the Conference calls for an immediate switch away from high-risk nuclear and fossil energy technologies to renewable energies. |

| H.E. Dr. Hassan Younes, the Egyptian Minister of Electricity and Energy handed over certificates for a batch of trainees from twelve Arab countries members in the Regional Center of Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency “RCREEE”, in the field of "Pricing of Renewable Energy Projects: Feed-in Tariff (FiT) Design and Structure for Wind Farms and Solar Plants". This interactive capacity building program was organized during the period October 23rd to 27th, 2011 in Cairo through cooperation between RCREEE, Egyptian Electric Utility and Consumer Protection Regulatory Agency “EgyptERA” and the Egyptian Ministry of Electricity and Energy represented by the New & Renewable Energy Authority “NREA”. |

Project of Energy Efficiency Indicators

RCREEE with a partnership of PLAN Bleu organized the third workshop on the "Project of energy efficiency indicators" on October 6th and 7th 2011, in the Plan Bleu premises in Sophia Antipolis (France).
The objective of this project is to implement a set of indicators to be used for monitoring and assessment of the energy efficiency policies in the 10 RCREEE Member States namely: Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Palestine, Syria, Tunisia and Yemen. |

6th BOT meeting in Beirut

On the 1st of October, 2011, the sixth meeting of the RCREEE Board of Trustees was held in Beirut. Representatives of Member States from Jordan, Tunisia, Algeria, Syria, Palestine, Lebanon and Egypt attended the meeting.
The meeting was also attended by representatives of our development partners from the German, Egyptian, Danish and the European Union sides along with members of the Executive Committee, the interim secretariat and representatives from Sudan, Iraq and Bahrain that applied to join the center. |

RCREEE at the Beirut Energy Forum

RCREEE extended its support to the Beirut Energy Forum 2011 through its exclusive platinum sponsorship. The Forum was held during the period September 29 to 30 2011 under the patronage of Eng. Gebran Bassil, Minister of Electricity and Water in Lebanon. BEF is one of the most important events that deal with renewable energy and energy efficiency in the Arab region.
RCREEE not only participated in the exhibition accompanying the conference, but also organized the main session of the conference which followed the opening ceremony. Eng. Samir Hassan the Executive Director of RCREEE headed the session where representatives of LAS, IRENA, MED-GRID and RCREEE delivered their presentations.

The event gathered high level experts and officials in various concerned sectors (industry, electricity, petroleum, environment, housing, tourism, local development and universities) together with experts from regional and international organizations (EU, World Bank, ESCWA, and UNDP). |

The workshop was attended by around 30 participants representing RCREEE BoT, the Designated National Authorities in RCREEE member states, the League of Arab States, the CDM-JI Initiatives and the National Agency for Energy Conservation in Tunisia. |

Workshop “National Energy Efficiency Action Plan “NEEAP” in RCREEE Member States”

| On April 28, 2011 a workshop was held in Tunisia to discuss the developments on the preparation of NEEAP in RCREEE Member States. The workshop was attended by members of the RCREEE Board of Trustees in addition to Mrs. Jamila Matar, director of energy department in the League of Arab States, and Mr. Ammar Al Taher, representative of MED-ENEC project. The Lebanese and Tunisian experiences in the preparation of NEEAP were presented during the workshop. The workshop concluded a set of recommendations which focused mainly on the possibility for member states to request the technical support of RCREEE, Med-ENEC and LAS and to consider the Arab Energy Efficiency guideline as an Arab initiative integrated and compatible with all national programs and activities. |

RCREEE starts its CDM activities

The Regional Centre for Renewable Energies and Energy Efficiency (“RCREEE”) signed in March 2011 a Memorandum of Understanding with the CDM-JI Initiative MENA region.
The CDM/JI Initiative launched in June 2008 by the German Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) with the aim of promoting carbon market in the countries concerned by the initiative such as China, Brazil, India and the MENA region (Algeria, Egypt, Morocco and Tunisia) and helping German companies in meeting their emission reduction target the purchase of certified emission reduction (CERs). The MENA unit started operations in February 2009. |

Project on Energy Efficiency Indicators

RCREEE has launched in partnership with Plan Bleu a project on Energy Efficiency indicators. The Kick-off Workshop was organized on 6&7 January 2011 in Tunis. The objective of this project is to implement a set of indicators to be used to monitor and assess the energy efficiency policies in RCREEE Member States (Morocco, Algeria, Egypt, Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Libya, Palestine, Tunisia and Yemen). Therefore, the RCREEE Member States need to develop and implement some measures in different sectors with high energy consumption, and assess the results expected. |
