| A Farwell to RCREEE leader, and a warm welcome to the New Executive Director |
|
As 2011 came to an end, Eng. Samir Hassan ended his years of service with RCREEE as an Executive Director since 2009. During his years leading the Center, RCREEE successfully passed its establishment phase and stepped into its now well known leading place in the region. Eng. Samir brought to RCREEE not only his immense technical expertise in the field of RE & EE, but also an undeniable talent as a Director.
Appointed by RCREEE Executive Committee and Board of Trustees, Mrs. Amel Bida became the New Executive Director of the Center. Mrs. Bida has worked as a senior technical expert in RCREEE Secretariat since 2008. She was seconded by the Tunisian Ministry of Industry and Technologies as a representative of the Maghreb countries based on her extensive professional experience in the fields of renewable energy, energy efficiency, climate change and CDM.
RCREEE team wishes Mrs. Amel all the best of luck in leading the Center for the coming period and welcomes the fresh enthusiasm that she brings to the RCREEE family. |
Workshop on: “Energy Efficiency Labels and Standards for Home Appliances”

| In Cooperation with New & Renewable Energy Authority (NREA), RCREEE organized a workshop on Energy Efficiency Labels and Standards for Home Appliances. The workshop was attended by specialists in EE Labeling for home appliances projects in RCREEE members states. National papers on the programs in member states were presented, which in turn will result in a comprehensive report on the evolution of labeling programs. |

Land Use Agreement & Power Purchase Agreement Models Discussion Roundtable

| Within the missions of the Centre to support partnership between the public and private sectors and to enhance the development of our Member States ambitious and national plans for RE, RCREEE prepared land use and power purchase agreements to be used in the preparation and documentation of large RE projects connected to the electricity grid.
On 14/12/2011, RCREEE held a regional seminar in Cairo to present and discuss the results of these models and propose any amendments to adjust them to the requirements of our Member States. The Discussion was attended by specialists in RE large scale projects planning from RCREEE Member States. |

RCREEE and the Secretariat of the Union for the Mediterranean Sign a Memorandum of Understanding |

The Secretariat of the Union for the Mediterranean “UfMS” and the Regional Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency “RCREEE”, signed on November 2nd 2011 a memorandum of understanding where both parties expressed their willingness to enhance and intensify their collaboration in many areas including cooperation in developing the Master Plan of the flagship UfM initiative the Mediterranean Solar Plan “MSP”, particularly in the areas of policy and regulatory frameworks at national and regional levels. RCREEE will act as a regional partner of the UfMS for facilitating the implementation of the MSP in terms of policy development and advocacy work, awareness raising, agenda setting, and dissemination of initiatives and concepts. RCREEE will be also actively involved in further activities to implement the MSP. Further both UfMS and RCREEE will exchange experiences and cooperate in particular in areas such as investment promotion and public private partnerships (PPP); research, development and demonstration (RD&D); as well as capacity and network building. The foreseen activities under the MoU would also comprise organizing joint events, written materials, and sharing of experts among other activities. It is hoped that the implementation of these MoU as well as similar activities and initiatives will help in boosting the development and deployment of renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies in the 13 Southern and Eastern Mediterranean Arab Countries members in RCREEE. |
RCREEE Family Grows with its Achievements
Sudan, Iraq, Bahrain, the new RCREEE members |

RCREEE celebrated the accession of three countries as new members of its family. The BOT, during its sixth meeting held in Beirut, approved the requests made by Sudan, Iraq and Bahrain to join RCREEE. The number of RCREEE member States has reached thirteen Arab states.
RCREEE will continue its quest to attract more Arab countries, promoting our role as the Arab platform for sustainable energy. RCREEE will continue to enhance the planning and future policies of renewable energy and energy efficiency for the energy sector in the Arab region. |
